Aiming at the high end of the SUV market, Volvo introduced the big XC90 wagon in July 2003. Squarely aimed at providing a high-riding on-road experience rather than the ability to slug it out off-road, the XC90 provides the space, design and safety expected of the brand. Three engines cover all the bases and the only transmission is a Geartronic six-speed auto. At the top of the range, the Yamaha V8-powered XC90 brings 232kW and 440Nm to bear, accelerating to 100km/h in 7.3 seconds and adding things like 18-inch alloys, powered and heated front seats and 12-speaker, six-CD audio.
