Volvo’s flagship S80 storms onto the luxury market with the might of a Yamaha V8, V6 petrol and a D5 turbodiesel, all-wheel drive and a chassis capable of dealing with indifferent roads. It arrived in 2007 with undetectable connections to the much smaller S40 and a big interior laden with safety, comfort and luxury. Below the V6 is the 136kW/400Nm 2.4-litre five-cylinder turbodiesel D5 that uses the same six-speed sequential auto transmission. The D5 gets six airbags, stability control, bi-Xenon headlights, 17-inch alloys, leather trim, heated and powered front seats, automatic climate control, trip computer and eight-speaker six-CD audio.
