The hatchback and sedan Meganes are Renault’s mainstay models, currently representing by far the bulkiest slice of the company’s Australian sales. Available in petrol or turbo form, the VW Golf-size, five-door Megane hatch offers a decent-size interior -- even though its wheelbase is shorter than the sedan -- excellent, smooth-riding on-road dynamics and high levels of safety. The 98kW/191Nm 2.0-litre DOHC four-cylinder petrol engine is only available with Renault’s four-speed Proactive automatic transmission. The second-tier Megane Expression petrol hatchback lists stability control, six airbags, stability control, 16-inch alloys, automatic climate control, trip computer and four-speaker CD audio as standard.
