The Boxster came here in 1997 to provide a cheaper, but unmistakably Porsche, experience. The two-seat convertible uses the familiar horizontally-opposed engine formula, but places it ahead of the rear axle for greatly improved weight balance and even better on-road poise - all making for a fabulous drive experience. The engine range is limited to 2.7-litre and 217kW/340Nm 3.2-litre S versions, with the performance of the latter (manual transmission) being Porsche-quick at 5.4 seconds for the 0-100km/h sprint. And if it only accommodates two, at least the Boxster is made practical by having both front and rear luggage compartments.
