Porsche’s current 997 series 911 came in 2006 and is still the mainstay of the brand in Australia - although it is helped along substantially by the Cayenne SUV in maintaining overall Porsche sales. The traditional aft-of-rear-axle, horizontally opposed engine formula remains undisturbed, but it’s all exquisitely sophisticated today. Today the Carrera coupe and cabrio offer a 254kW/390Nm 3.6-litre direct injection engine driving through a six-speed manual or a new dual-clutch seven-speed PDK transmission. As usual, the auto is faster, cleaner and more economical than the manual, with the coupe version able to reach 100km/h in just 4.7 seconds.
