Porsche’s current 997 series 911 came in 2006 and is still the mainstay of the brand in Australia - although it is helped along substantially by the Cayenne, Boxster and Cayman in maintaining overall Porsche sales. The traditional aft-of-rear-axle, horizontally opposed engine formula remains undisturbed, but it’s all exquisitely sophisticated today. The Carrera 4 S is available in 2+2 coupe or cabriolet form and offers the extra traction and security of constant four-wheel drive. It uses a 283kW/370Nm version of the 3.6-litre boxer powerplant driving through a six-speed manual or five-speed Tiptronic transmission.
