Land Rover introduced its new generation Freelander 2 in mid 2007 with a chance to right the wrongs of the previous version. That it does, with impressive capability on and off road. Four-mode Terrain Response all-wheel-drive, Hill Descent, Gradient Release, Roll Stabilisation, Stability control and seven airbags - including driver's knee bags ? are all standard across the range. The six-speed auto only Freelander is decently large inside too. Engines embrace a 118kW/400Nm 2.2-litre turbodiesel and a 171kW/317Nm 3.2-litre petrol V6. Among other things, HSE Freelanders add 18-inch alloys and Xenon headlights to SE equipment.
